Our Travel Bucket List for 2019
I love random national holidays. Heck, I love any reason to celebrate. When I saw that today was National Plan for Vacation Day, I decided to have Zach and I really sit down and talk about our travel plans for the year. Zach and I are pretty flexible with our travel. We both have pretty hectic work schedules during the second, third, and fourth quarters so if the opportunity comes up for a little time off to get away, we take it!
I am also all for writing goals down. I feel like once something is in writing, I have to do it. Does anyone else feel that way? Plus, writing down our travel plans really helps us look for the best travel deals. We are all for balling on a budget over here.
Here are a couple places on our radar for 2019, as well as some of our scheduled plans:
Local Road Trips
Last weekend the three of us took a spontaneous trip to Baltimore and it was so incredibly relaxing. It inspired us to get out and explore the local area more. We’ve been talking about spending time in Annapolis, Ocean City, Charlottesville, and Richmond–all completely doable in a short weekend!
We’ve been dying to get out and hike more with Navy–I swear, she has no off button. We are incredibly excited to collaborate with Getaway House DC in April. You better believe we will be taking advantage of the gorgeous trails in the Shenandoah National Park while there.
New York City
Zach and I haven’t been to NYC in a couple years so we are long overdue for a trip. We actually had plans to visit NYC last December, but unfortunately they fell through. This year we really want to commit to traveling to the big apple with Navy.
North Carolina
Zach has been flying south to work in Charlotte, North Carolina every other week. Navy and I have plans to visit him for an upcoming weekend. After my weekend trip to Asheville last fall, I’ve wanted to take Zach and Navy to visit there as well. We also want to visit the Outer Banks again and swing by the Raleigh/Durham area.
Maine + Boston
Zach and I are attending a wedding in Maine over memorial day weekend, which just so happens to be my birthday. Somehow I’ve conned Zach into letting me bring Navy for the trip. Right now we are deciding on whether or not we want to fly in and out of Boston and drive to the wedding in Maine, or fly directly to Maine. Nonetheless, while we are in New England, we do want to visit Boston!
Florida
We already announced this on our Instagram, but we booked a trip with Navy to Orlando. The last time I visited Orlando, more specifically Disney World, was over 15 years ago … holy crap I am getting old. Disney is not pet friendly, so Navy will have to spend some time with a sitter while Zach and I visit a few of the parks!
California
After an awesome trip to Los Angeles and Santa Barbara last fall, we feel more comfortable flying with Navy. It has always been a goal of ours to attend at least one corgi beach day with Navy. Right now the fall beach day is looking pretty good. 😉
Canada
Since starting an Instagram for Navy I’ve been so inspired by the beauty of Canada. Neither Zach or I have traveled to Canada but we’ve been dying to visit with Navy. Flights in and out of Toronto from DC are actually pretty cheap and we could get there in about two hours!
The Caribbean
I am blessed to travel to Hawaii every year for work, but I don’t think Navy will ever be able to make the trip with me. It is way too long of a flight for her and Hawaii has strict rules for pet travel. I started looking into bringing Navy to an Island in the Caribbean simply because the flights are not terribly long from DC. I don’t know how feasible it is, but we are keeping our fingers crossed to spend our New Years on a tropical beach!
I’ll be honest with you guys, writing our list down was incredibly hard. There were so many places we wanted to visit, but we had to be realistic. Plus, traveling with a pet is not always the best idea so we had to narrow the list down…a lot. If money or time were not an object, we’d always be on the road.
I hope you found inspiration from our travel bucket list. What is on the top of your travel bucket list?

6 years agoI’d love to travel back up to Boston. Maybe catch a game up there as well as all the great historical sites. I travel to Pennslyvania now about once a year to visit my birth mother. Means a lot to me to be a part of a huge family I now have. They show me around quite a bit and take me to the shore. Unfortunately my older dog is unable to make the trip, she is almost 15. Good luck on your adventures. They sound fun and ambitious.

6 years ago AUTHORWe love road trips! And I understand about having an older dog and not able to travel. My family dog is almost 10 now and unfortunately she cannot stomach long rides like she used too. Thank you! I know our travel plans are a little ambitious. Luckily we already have a few of these trips scheduled ;). Thanks for reading!!

6 years agoWe live in California, so not sure if it’s true for DisneyWorld, but Disney Land has a dog kennel on site that you can leave your pup for the day. You are expected to visit and feed/give her some exercise and attention. But it’s doable! Look into that for Disney world maybe?
