Spoiler alert! It has been well over 30 days since we started feeding our dog, Duke, Tailored® dog food. We absolutely love it and will continue to personalize his food with Tailored.
Last month we published part one of our review of Tailored® dog food. As with any new food or service we try for our dogs, we want to make sure they actually like it before we share it. Also, we want to ensure that we like the brand, customer service, etc.
TRANSITIONING TO TAILORED
Owners change their dog’s food for several reasons. Whatever the reason is for the change, you should take your time with the transition. As we mentioned in our last post, we like to take things slow when switching our dogs’ diets. Our dogs tend to get upset stomachs if we don’t take the time to transition them gradually.
The info sheet Tailored included in our first food shipment instructed us to slowly transition Duke from his old kibble to his new recipe over 10 days. The first three days, we fed Duke about 75% of his old kibble and 25% of his new Tailored kibble. On days four-six, we fed Duke 50% old kibble and 50% new. Finally, from day seven-ten, we fed Duke 25% of his old kibble and 75% of his new kibble. After day ten, we were feeding Duke 100% of his new Tailored recipe.
Some dogs transition easier than others. You’ll read more later in this review, but Duke instantly took to his Tailored recipe! He started to pick this kibble out first in his bowl. Though his taste buds loved the new recipe, his stomach took a little longer to transition. In hindsight, we should have doubled the amount of time it took us to transition Duke. We were not only transitioning his formula but giving him things he’s never tried before. It’s been a little over a month that we’ve been feeding Duke his new Tailored food, and he is doing just fine now!
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
As I mentioned in our first blog post review of Tailored®, I am a sucker for good branding and packaging. I was instantly impressed with our Tailored bag. But of course, that isn’t what matters in a dog food review, right?
When completing the personalization quiz on TailoredPet.com, we selected a few issues Duke was struggling with: frequently chewing paws, loose stool, vomiting, and excessive gas. We also noted that Duked seemed to have irritated skin and had a bit of doggy breath. Though he has fair dental health, we really wanted to see if we could improve his teeth and gums!
Shortly after we finished the short quiz we were matched with a personalized recipe that fit Duke’s preferences and our goals for his health and wellness. His recipe included Chicken, Menhaden Fish Meal, Lentil and Whole Egg Blend. Yum! The crunchy kibble is designed to support clean teeth and healthy gums and live probiotics are added after cooking his recipe to support a healthy digestion.
When we first opened the bag, the smell was surprisingly pleasant! Both Navy and Duke caught a whiff of what was in the bag and came running over (literally).
The kibble is smaller in size compared to what we were feeding Duke before. We actually prefer this, and so did Duke. It allowed him to take his time while eating his meals and not gobble it down. We also noticed an overall improvement in his digestion. He is more regular and his stool is firmer.
FINAL THOUGHTS
By having a social media presence and our blog, we have the fantastic opportunity to partner with genuinely incredible brands. With that being said, sometimes, we see bloggers or influencers quick to endorse brands they’ve barely tried. Our test with any brand or service is whether we will continue to use purchase (with our own money).
I can safely say that we will continue our subscription with Tailored, and here is why. Tailored has incredible customer service. Like really, if you have any issues, they are a quick call or email away. We were a little bit nervous about how Duke was reacting to his Tailored recipe. We reached out to Tailored customer service reps and received an incredibly quick response.
We touched on this in our first post, but Tailored is actually more affordable than we were feeding him before. Also, the subscription service makes reordering Duke’s food incredibly easy.
Finally, it’s personalized! Based on Duke’s needs and our goals, we get to personalize his recipe. And suppose we are not satisfied for any reason, we get to work with Tailored’s amazing customer service reps to adjust his recipe, or we get our money back, guaranteed.
Again, thank you so much for stopping by and reading our review. You’ll see more of Tailored on our social media accounts for sure. If you have any questions at all about our experience with Tailored, leave a comment below.
