See You in 2020! Our 2019 Recap

2019 was a doozy. From both Zach and I starting new jobs, Navy turning two, bringing Duke home, and buying a house, we’ve done a lot in the last 365 days! Last year we wrote a post reviewing our 2018 and talking a little about our plans for the new year. This year we wanted to do the same.

Without further ado, take a look at some of our highlights of 2019…

January was pretty slow for us. The weather wasn’t the best in DC, so we spent a lot of time at indoors at home. We started agility level three for the second time with Navy. As much as Navy loves agility, shortly after starting this class we realized we needed to take a step back and focus on Navy’s obedience training before continuing any more.

We took a spontaneous weekend trip to Baltimore, went to a pet expo, enjoyed Baltimore Restaurant week and just relaxed. We need to go on more spontaneous trips in the new year!

Altogether 2019 was the year of learning how to blog…if that makes sense. We set our blog live in January 2018 and made a ton of mistakes (shout out to our longtime subscribers who’ve stayed with us as we’ve learned ‘how to blog’). This past January, we decided to move our blog from living off of Wix.com to WordPress. For those of your outside the blogging/website community, WordPress is preferred for blogging. We’ve received so many questions regarding starting a blog, we’ve actually considered writing a post about it–what are your thoughts?

In March Zach and I made the decision to add a puppy to our family; we officially decided to bring Duke home and we shared the good news with our family and friends.

This was the first photo we saw of puppy Duke!

April was pretty busy for us. We celebrated Navy’s second birthday and partied with about 50 of our friends, family, and online friends. After this craziness, we packed our bags and traveled south with Navy to Getaway House DC to relax just the three of us before we brought puppy Duke home. Later in April, we traveled to Raleigh, North Carolina to meet Navy and Duke’s half brother Kermit and had a photoshoot with one of our favorite photographers.

Happy 2nd birthday Navy!

For the rest of April and throughout May we focused on training with Duke. Every weekend we went to puppy socials and twice a week he went to puppy classes.

Let’s just say Duke was not the biggest fan of training at first…

Also in May, Instagram deactivated our account. I know that’s not really a highlight. Having our account unexpectedly deleted really sucked, but in hindsight it opened my eyes up to the brevity of Instagram and social medial. I guess you could say we began to put less effort into our account and creating content after this happened.

In June we took Navy with us to Orlando, Florida. Yikes…it was hot! Though we had a ton of fun on this trip, Navy definitely did not enjoy the warm weather. After this trip we decided to be more strategic with the locations and timings of our future travels.

In July we went to New York City!  This was Navy’s (and Duke’s) first trips to the big apple and mine and Zach’s first time back in a couple years. We should not have picked such a warm weekend to visit, but nonetheless we had a ton of fun. Honestly, I think this was my best trip to New York City and it definitely makes me want to go back with the dogs…when the weather is cooler!

Our August was pretty uneventful. Zach and I were pretty busy with work and we started our search for a home. At the end of the month we went our on our annual trip to the Outer Banks, North Carolina with Zach’s family.

In October we closed on our house and moved! In November Zach and I traveled to Tokyo, Japan over Thanksgiving while Duke and Navy enjoyed quality time with their grandparents. These two were so tired after a week of non stop playing! Truthfully, the remainder of 2019 we spent at home, trying to unpack, start projects, and fall in love with our new town.

Navy and Duke love their new back yard–especially after it rains and it turns into a mud pit…

In 2019 we experienced new things, explored new places, and watched Duke grow up and bond with his older sister. We made memories with old and new friends and traveled to exciting places. This past year was full of highs and lows, good times and plenty of bad times. As we look back and reflect on the last 365 days, we also are looking forward to the next 365. We have big plans, goals, and milestones we’d like to reach. Stay tuned for some changes and improvements in the new year!

Thanks again for reading along and following us on our crazy adventures — your support honestly means the world to us! As always, if you have any posts or topics you’d like for us to discuss in the new year, please feel free to suggest them in the comments below, or you can always send us a direct message on Instagram. We plan to start 2020 off strong, so your feedback is greatly appreciated.
