EASY Saint Patrick’s Day Green Dog Treats
Need an easy way to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day with your dog? Look no further! What says Saint Patrick’s Day better than an easy St. Paddy’s Day inspired treat recipe for your pup? I know we are crazy dog parents over here but doesn’t want to celebrate every single holiday (including St. Patrick’s Day) with their dog?
I really wanted to make Navy a naturally green homemade dog treat for the holiday. When I first researched how to make green dog treats, a lot of recipes recommended adding green food coloring. Now, we don’t judge those who want to make their treats extra green, but personally we don’t like to add artificial coloring to recipes in our house.
Some natural green dog treat recipes called for adding spinach or peas to get that green tint. Navy is allergic to peas and not a fan of spinach. She does however like green beans. I will warn you, if you’ve ever looked at pureed green beans…they don’t look very pretty. We opted to add fresh mint to the recipe to help give the treats a more balanced green look.
Before we get started, yes I know our treats do not look aesthetically pleasing. As with all of our recipes, we try to make things incredibly easy. Plus, I am pretty sure only the humans care how the treats look. You only need 4 ingredients and about 15 minutes of your time to make these tasty green dog treats.
Ingredients:
- ½ cup whole wheat flour
- 6 oz green beans (we used baby food!)
- 3-5 fresh mint leaves
Directions:
1. Start by adding 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour (or oat flour, whichever you prefer) to a medium mixing bowl. If you want to use cookie cutters to cut shapes out of your dough I recommend adding an extra 1/4 cup of flour.
2. Add about 6 ounces of purred green beans to your flour and mix. To make things easy we picked up a pack of organic green bean baby food at target. Navy got the leftover green beans in her dinner and loved it!
3. Chop about 3-5 fresh mint leaves and add them to your mixture.
4. The mixture will be slightly wet and sticky. We used a spoon to section out 10 balls of dough on a baking sheet. We use a silicon mat on our baking sheets to avoid spraying oil to our trays.
5. Place your tray in the oven for 10-12 min at 350 degrees.
6. Let the treats cool for about 5-10 minutes and enjoy!
Navy approved! It always warms my heart when I see Navy right underfoot when I am baking her treats. I was actually a little nervous she wouldn’t like these treats because of the green beans. But my darling puppy daughter did not let me down. She loved them! I left the treats on he counter to cool and I caught her jumping on the side of the couch to get a closer sniff of her treats.
Happy Saint Patrick’s Day! If you tried this recipe out, let us know! We would love to share it on our Instagram. Did you like this recipe? Check out more of our easy recipes.

6 years agoI like that you found a way to get a natural green colour, and even better the recipe is super easy, just the way I like them. I would have to add chicken or cheese to the mixture for Jack to give them a try , but I may just do that. Thanks!

6 years agoWhat fun treats – the mint will add a bit of fresh breath too! We make stinky green tripe treats for St. Pat’s day – yucky for me, yummy for the dogs! We’ll add these to our treat cards – I’m thinking the dogs will love them!

6 years agoNavy is so beautiful. I love her colors! I made a very similar treat but without green beans before for my older dog, Kitsune. Mint is supposed to help freshen their breath! I think my older dog would love these treats, but not sure my younger boy would. No offense meant, he a super super picky eater! Happy early St. Patrick’s Day.

6 years agoNavy looks so cute in her Saint Patrick’s Day glasses! My dogs love green beans but don’t seem to like mint that much, I’ll have to see if they like this recipe. If they don’t like it, I won’t add the mint next time.

6 years agoEpic treats in my SO not favourite colour. OK that’s because I look hideous in green (like I died or something!). But the look on that doggy face is priceless! I know these treats will go down a storm now (and even at Christmas too).
You NEED to make this a cute printable it will do down a storm!!!
