10+ Small Pet Businesses We Love
It’s national small business week and I could not be more excited! I love shopping small and shopping local. I don’t know about you, but I am more drawn to supporting a smaller business or local shop, rather than spending my hard earned cash at a larger chain. There is just something that brings me a little extra joy when I shop small.
A few weeks ago we asked our Instagram audience to name some small shops and businesses they love. To close out national small business week we wanted to take the opportunity to give a shout out to some of those shops you recommended, and some of the shops we’ve adored as well.
Here are just a few small pet shops worth your support. The list is in no particular order and while we’ve shopped from the majority of these businesses, by no means is this an all-inclusive list.
- Sassy Woof – It’s no secret we’re obsessed with Sassy Woof. This DC local company is owned by our good friend @mayathedox. Shop Sassy Woof’s website for adorable collars, leashes, harnesses and more!
- Woof Bowl – This is another local DC company that we absolutely adore. Woof Bowl is the first food truck … for dogs! Navy and Duke are literally obsessed with everything on the menu. Friends in the DMV, check out @woofbowl on Instagram to see where they are at.
- The Barking Muse – Woohoo! Another DC area company we love is Barking Muse. Their shampoo and paw/snout moisturizer is the best. Seriously, Navy and Duke smell absolutely amazing after a wash. We even reviewed their cleanser on our blog last year.
- Designs by Wildside – Based in Salt Lake City, Utah, Designs by Wildside offers unique or custom handmade collars, leashes, and other pet accessories. We are drawn to the style and aesthetic of the patterns they choose! Their accessories are super durable as well. We’ve had all of our collars and leashes for years.
- Hanesy Handmade – Want accessories to match your dog’s? Shop Hanesy Handmade for the cutest dog bandanas and human hair scarves. We’re obsessed with all the patterns!
- Spotted Dog Bakery – Looking for a cake or custom treats for your dog? Look no further! We had two cakes from Spotted Dog Bakery for Navy’s second birthday party. All the pups loved the cakes and I thought they were adorable!
- Royal Collections and Co – So we’ve actually never shopped with Royal Collections and Co, but we are long overdue. Almost all our Instagram dog friends recommend this brand and taking one look at their account, I can see why! They offer trendy pet accessories with catchy and cute text add-ons.
- Stitches for Steak – Stitches for Steak is another DC local pet accessory company. Each reversible bandana is made by hand (with love). We love their snap add-ons and fun patterns! The best part about this shop? Everything is super affordable!
- Calvin’s Creations – Calvin’s Creations offers healthy, homemade treats and adorable treat canisters for your dog. Made with love, these treats will satisfy even the pickiest of eaters!
- Wesson’s Canine Bakery – Yum! We love Wesson’s Canine Bakery. This family owned shop offers the yummiest healthy treats for your pup. The treats are homemade with your pet’s nutrition in mind! Try the breath treats – they are Navy’s favorite!
- Up Country – We were so excited to be selected as ambassadors for Up Country. Located outside Providence, Rhode Island, Up Country sells high quality dog collars, learshes, harnesses, etc. They offer such a wide array of choices in their designs. I’m positive you’ll find more than a few things you like!
- Molly & Stitch – We’ve been obsessed with Molly & Stitch ever since we got our first leather collar and leash set last year. Molly & Stitch dog collars and leashes are handcrafted with the finest leather and rope. All products are designed with your dog’s comfort in mind. Shop Molly & Stitch for pet accessories, beds, toys, and more!
- HUND Denmark – HUND offers beautifully crafted leather dog collars and leashes. We have their 6 way leather luxury dog leash and it is our absolute favorite leash for walking the pups at the same time!
- Hund Collar Company – This company seriously has it all! From adorable ribbon leashes and collars, to home goods, bandanas and apparel for your human – we can’t get enough. A percentage of each collar sold goes to support animals in need.x
You probably already know that the pandemic is particularly affecting small businesses. We plan to continue to shop and support small businesses in the future. We can’t wait to add to our list of favorite small pet businesses and possibly expand on this as a series on our blog. Let us know if this is something you’d be interesting to reading!
