Happy First Birthday Duke! | Making Duke a Birthday Cake
Happy first birthday Duke! Wow. It is so crazy to think that our little puppy is now one year old. For Navy’s first birthday we definitely went all out. We planned her a party, I took off work, and we just cuddled all day with her. We weren’t able to do that this year for Duke so I decided to make it up to him and bake him the BEST birthday cake ever!
Instead of using a premade boxed mix, I wanted to make Duke something special. I was scrolling through Pinterest and I came up with the fabulous idea to make him a meatloaf type cake using Vital Essentials raw patties. A cake made of meat!? Weird right? Well, luckily I didn’t take a bite-Navy and Duke ate it all up.
There may be quite a few more steps than our normal recipes, but I promise, this cake was not difficult to make. Follow our steps below and take a look at Duke (and Navy) absolutely destroying Duke’s first birthday cake.
INGREDIENTS
For the “cake” patty:
- 1 Vital Essentials Raw Patty thawed (we used chicken!)
- 1 egg
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
For the icing:
- 1 cup full fat plain greek yogurt
“Sprinkles”:
- Vital Essentials Chicken Freeze-Dried Grain Free Meal Boost Topper
- Vital Essentials Beef Tripe Freeze-Dried Treats
DIRECTIONS
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- In a large bowl, combine the thawed patty, egg and ½ cup of breadcrumbs.
- Place in a lightly greased 4 inch ramekins. We bought ours from World Market.
- Bake at 350 degrees F for 30-35 minutes.
- After cooling, spread ⅓ to ½ of plain greek yogurt on the first layer.
- Place the second cake layer on the frosted first layer. Use the remaining frosting to coat the sides and top of the cake.
- Sprinkle freeze-dried toppers and freeze-dried treats as sprinkles.
- Enjoy!
No Duke didn’t get to enjoy the cake alone. We allowed Navy to take a few bites as well! I’ll warn you, it got a bit messy. We definitely had to vacuum and mop after these two had their feast.
