I love taking the dogs on a weekend getaway. Being cooped up in the house the past year, we jump at every opportunity we can get to get out and explore!
This past weekend we had the opportunity to visit and stay at the Wylder Hotel on Tilghman Island, Maryland. Spoiler alert: we had an absolute blast. We’ve been wanting to take the dogs to the Chesapeake area for a while now. We were so excited that the Wylder Hotel on Tilghman Island was willing to host Zach and me, plus the dogs, for this incredible experience.
THE WYLDER HOTEL TILGHMAN ISLAND: GETTING THERE
The Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island was about a 2.5-hour drive from where we live in Loudoun County, Virginia. For our friends in Washington, D.C., it should take you less than two hours to drive to Tilghman Island — pending traffic, of course.
The drive was not bad at all. Luckily, we didn’t hit much traffic. However, there was a food festival in neighboring St. Michaels, Maryland. We did hit some traffic driving through town.
When we come back to the Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island, we will definitely depart our home earlier. That way, we can take advantage of all the hotel’s activities before we check in.
THE WYLDER HOTEL TILGHMAN ISLAND: ACTIVITIES & EXPERIENCES
Speaking of activities, we were overwhelmed by everything the Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island had to offer. We really should have stayed another night to experience it all!
We were pretty exhausted from our busy work week. Zach, the dogs, and I spent our Saturday exploring the hotel, walking along the beach and lawn, and enjoying a drink by the fire pits.
Take a look at just a few of the activities and amenities Wylder Tilghman Island has to offer. Visit their website for a complete list of on-site activities.
- Heated saltwater pool with complimentary water and sunscreen.
- Kayaks, paddleboards and canoes.
- Complimentary beach cruiser bikes.
- Lawn games.
- Evening fire pits.

- Fishing charters and sunset cruises.
- Free yoga classes on Sundays.
THE WYLDER HOTEL TILGHMAN ISLAND: PET POLICY
Bring your dog! Nearly everything at the Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island is dog friendly. We were pleasantly surprised that Navy and Duke could come with us basically anywhere on the property (except for the pool and the indoor restaurant area). There is a 50$ per night cleaning fee for dogs staying overnight at the hotel. A pet waiver must be completed upon check-in, and dogs must be on a leash at all times.
THE WYLDER HOTEL TILGHMAN ISLAND: FOOD & DRINK
The on-site restaurant, Tickler’s Crab Shack, is an absolute must. They offer indoor and outdoor seating on the water. The menu is built to feature local products. Don’t like seafood? No worries! I don’t enjoy seafood but found plenty of options on the menu.
Saturdays are steak night at Tickler’s Crab Shack. Zach and I split the prime rib special, their famous buttermilk spice fried chicken sandwich. For our appetizer, we tried the crab & corn hushpuppies and the Chesapeake crab dip.
On Sundays, Tickler’s offers brunch. Being from the D.C. area, we love brunch. We both had the buttermilk vanilla bean pancakes. These were, hands down, the best pancakes I have ever had. I ate every last bite!
THE WYLDER HOTEL TILGHMAN ISLAND: FINAL THOUGHTS
We could’ve spent so much more time at Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island — we had such a great experience. From breathtaking sunsets of the Chesapeake Bay, fantastic food at Tickler’s Crab Shack, relaxing strolls on the beach and lawn, the Wylder hotel is filled with charm.
We had such a great experience at the Wylder Hotel Tilghman Island. I really wish we could have stayed longer! We didn’t really take advantage of all the amenities and activities they had to offer. I’m already looking forward to planning our return trip!
