DIY Fall Inspired Dog Treats

Humans shouldn’t be the only ones that get to enjoy all the yummy fall treats! Looking for the best fall inspired treats that your dog will fall in love with? We made a list of our favorite fall treat recipes complete with reviews, cooking tips, and some adorable pictures!

The Easiest Pumpkin Dog Biscuits

Now when I say something is EASY to make, believe me, these treats are incredibly easy! I was actually a little nervous making these at first. Navy is obsessed with her freeze dried raw protein treats from Vital Essentials so I didn’t know how she would react to a … vegetable treat. Bottom line: she LOVED them. I was so surprised at how absolutely nuts Navy went for these treats. I thought that she was trying to make mom happy at first, but after I saw how she would cry staring at the treats on the counter I knew these treats would be a new staple in the house.

You only need 3 ingredients to make these yummy treats: 2 cups whole wheat flour (or if your pup has an allergy you can make with oat flour or coconut flour), 1 large egg, and 1 cup pumpkin puree.

  1. I recommend starting by mixing your wet ingredients in a medium sized bowl and then gradually fold in the flour (save a little bit of flour for when you roll out your batter).
  2. After the batter is mixed, sprinkle a little flour on the clean counter and a bit on the rolling pin (so nothing sticks). You can roll the the batter out as thin or thick as you would like. We wanted to make ours a little thicker so we rolled the batter out to about ¼ inch.
  3. I picked up some adorable dog bone cookie cutters at Homegoods and used them to cut out about 18 biscuits. You can either lightly grease your pan or use parchment paper (what we used).
  4. We heated our biscuits for 20 minutes at 375 F. If your biscuits are thinner, I recommend only keeping them in the oven for 15 minutes so they don’t burn. After fully cooled — enjoy!

Frozen ‘Pumpkin Spice Latte’ Treats

You can’t think of fall without the ever famous Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte. We found a super easy recipe for frozen pumpkin spice treats from Irresistible Pets and modified it a bit to use a little less yogurt.

Like the last recipe, you only need 3 ingredients: ½ cup pumpkin puree½ cup nonfat greek yogurt, and 1 teaspoon ground cinnamonNote: Cinnamon is non-toxic for dogs but should only be used in small amounts.

  1. We used our NutriBullet to blend the pumpkin, yogurt, and cinnamon. After a few blasts we felt the consistency was good enough to start to freeze our treats!
  2. The original recipe recommends using a Ziplock bag or pastry bag to make the transfer process easier. We were able to use a smaller spoon to transfer the liquid to our silicone mold. We actually received this tray from last month’s PupBox (use code “NAVY” to get your first PupBox for $5!)… Here is a similar one from Amazon.
  3. These little pupsicles cooled in the freezer for about 2 hours before we popped one out for Navy to sample. She gave these ‘pumpkin spice latte treats’ 4 paws up.

Oatmeal Spice Pumpkin Peanut Butter Treats

Oatmeal Spice Pumpkin Peanut Butter treats … I challenge you to say that 3 times fast! When researching some easy dog-friendly fall recipes for pups, we found so many different recipes that looked absolutely amazing … so we decided to combine them!

This recipe calls for a few more ingredients than the other two, but believe me… they are worth it. To spoil your pup with this yummy fall inspired recipe you will need: 3 cups oatmeal1 teaspoon cinnamon, ½ cup pumpkin puree, 2 tbsp peanut butter, and 1 large egg.

  1. We first combined our wet ingredients: pumpkin, peanut butter, and egg.
  2. Second, we folded in our oatmeal flour and sprinkled in our cinnamon. In order to make homemade oatmeal flour we pulled our NutriBullet (you can also use a food processor) back out. I was surprised at how easy this was, the oatmeal turned into flour within seconds. We will definitely be cooking with oatmeal flour a lot more now!
  3. After combining the wet ingredients with the dry, we sprinkled some extra oatmeal flour onto the counter and rolling pin and rolled out our batter to about ¼ inch. If your batter is too sticky, try adding in some more oatmeal or whole wheat flour!
  4. We used a bottle cap as our makeshift cookie cutter. We were able to cut out about 20 1-inch cookies and we used our medium dog bone cutter to make a few extra treats. I used a fork to press a little design into the tops of the cookies (because Navy is extra as heck).
  5. We lined our pan with parchment paper and put the treats in the oven to bake at 375 F for 20 minutes.

Navy Approved! Navy tried out all these recipes and she was a BIG fan! I cannot wait to recreate these recipes through the season. Have any questions? Feel free to comment below.
