DC Dog-Friendly Getaway: The Hotel at the University of Maryland

Spacious rooms, top amenities and a superb location, could you ask for anything more in a hotel? Just across the street from The University of Maryland, you’ll find The Hotel at the University of Maryland.

Neither Zach nor I went to the University of Maryland. It’s been years since we’ve been to College Park, Maryland. Nevertheless, we were excited for our weekend getaway to The Hotel at the University of Maryland. We were more than excited to bring our two dogs, Navy and Duke.

Whether you’re passing through town, visiting The University of Maryland or looking for a fun weekend in College Park, by the end of our post, you’ll be planning a visit of your own.

Without further ado, here’s our recap of our weekend stay at The Hotel at the University of Maryland.

ABOUT THE HOTEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND

You can’t beat The Hotel location. It is directly across the street from the main entrance to the University of Maryland campus and within walking distance to various restaurants and bars.

Or if you’d rather just stay in and enjoy this gorgeous Hotel, I really wouldn’t blame you. I didn’t realize how big The Hotel was before stepping inside! Equipt with a fitness center, pool, spa you’ll never want to leave. In addition, there are many beautiful seating areas where you can sit down, put your feet up, read a book or enjoy a coffee.

THE HOTEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND: PET POLICY

The Hotel does not just allow pets; they welcome them! The Southern Management PAWS (Pets Are Welcome) Program includes a welcome surprise for pets and food and water bowls for your room.

Looking for an activity in College Park with your dog? The Hotel has you covered. As part of the PAWs program, The Hotel recommends local dog-friendly restaurants, trails, shopping and more. Visit the PAWS program webpage for a list of their recommendations.

Two dogs up to 100 pounds are welcome per room. A non-refundable $75 pet fee is due upon check-in.

THE HOTEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND: DOG-FRIENDLY DINING

Whether or not you are staying at The Hotel at the University of Maryland, you have to visit The Hall CP located directly behind The Hotel. The Hall CP is a restaurant, bar and event space with great food and ambiance. We stopped by with the dogs for lunch and came back in the evening for dinner and drinks! I had the street kale salad for lunch, and Zach had the old-fashioned burger. We were absolutely spoiled by the staff during our lunch visit. The events manager explained the enhancements to the ‘backyard’ event space plans. We will certainly be stopping by this spring to check it out!

We returned to The Hotel CP for dinner and split the handmade soft pretzels and short rib tacos (yum!). The couple next to us ordered the pizza, and it looked absolutely incredible.

Speaking of pizza – and you know we love pizza – right outside The Hotel’s ground floor, you’ll find Potomac Pizza. Zach came to The Hotel later with Duke Friday night, so I ordered a pie and salad to be delivered to our hotel room. Ten out of 10 stars for Potomac Pizza! When the weather is warmer, you can dine with your dog on their patio.

We planned to have dinner Saturday night at Burtons Grill & Bar, but our plans changed. Though we did not have the opportunity to dine at Burtons Grill & Bar, we will be back! During the winter, they offer heated igloos for guests to enjoy their dinners outdoors with their dogs. I’ve always wanted to experience this.

If you want to walk around campus or get an earlier start to your day, grab coffee and breakfast at Bagels’ n Grinds on The Hotel’s ground floor. The options are endless with the large coffee self-serve bar at Bagels’ n Grinds.

We ended our trip Sunday morning at Vigilante Coffee, a cafe and roastery located in College Park. Vigilante sources all their beans directly from farms around the world. They’ve taken the time to truly master their coffees. We may have picked up a few bags to gift to family and friends for Christmas this year.

Overall, this weekend was exactly what we needed and made some great memories thanks to The Hotel at the University of Maryland. If you are looking for a weekend getaway or visiting the University of Maryland, be sure to mark this as your spot.
